Versa Networks Continues Global Momentum; Announces Tier 1 Service Provider Production Deployment in China

Company’s Continued Traction Attributed to Rapid Global Adoption of Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Increased Demand for SD-WAN and SD-Security
Santa Clara, Calif., April 13, 2016

Versa Networks, a networking and security startup providing next-generation WAN and branch office solutions for service providers and enterprises, today announced it is expanding its global footprint into Asia Pacific with the signing of a Chinese Tier 1 service provider. As a key partner in Asia, the provider will leverage Versa innovation in network function virtualization (NFV) to deliver turnkey software-defined WAN (SD-WAN), software-defined security (SD-security) and virtual customer premises equipment (vCPE) services to its customers. Versa Networks’ continued growth can be attributed to increased industry demand for SD-WAN and SD-security. IDC estimates that the worldwide SD-WAN market will exceed $6 billion by 2020 across a wide range of industry verticals.¹

“We are seeing strong demand for software-defined WAN and security solutions across all theaters,” said Kumar Mehta, CEO and co-founder of Versa Networks. “Asia is becoming a strong market for us, and we now have multiple engagements with Tier 1 national providers ranging from proof of concept to production.”

Today’s announcement follows the company’s March European channel expansion news that announced leading network integrators Interdata (France), Xantaro (Germany & UK), Ymon (Finland) and Axians (UK) have embraced Versa Networks in their transition from proprietary hardware systems to NFV.

In addition to its Asia Pacific and EMEA traction, Versa has made a number of product and award headlines since the company launched its solution portfolio six months ago.

In November, Versa announced it was one of the first companies to complete the formal certification process to achieve VMware Ready for NFV status. The company’s virtualized network functions (VNF) have been proven compatible with VMware NFV infrastructure, giving service providers the confidence that Versa VNF-based solutions will deploy, run on and interoperate with vCloud NFV.

In December, the company announced it was closing out the year with more than 40 customer deployments spanning North America, Europe, Asia and Central America ranging from proof-of-concepts to field trials and production. It also closed out the year with 35 patents in process.

In January this year, the company’s Versa FlexVNF was honored with a coveted Most Valuable Product (MVP) for 2016 award in the Networking category from Computer Technology Review (CTR). The company continued its momentum in February, announcing that it had been named one of 10 finalists for the RSA® Conference Innovation Sandbox Contest 2016.

Also in February, Current Analysis awarded Versa’s SD-WAN solution with a “Strong” rating. The report, “SD-WAN 2015 Market Update: Vendor Snapshots Show a Crowded, Competitive Field Attempting to Diversify,” said, “All of (Versa Networks) virtual network functions, such as SD-WAN, vCPE and branch security are components that can be deployed centrally to the provider edge or on-premises as needed. And are ideally suited for service providers and enterprises alike.”

February was also a month of product innovation and integration. Early on, the company announced it had worked with EMC to test and validate the interoperability of its FlexVNF software on EMC’s Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure® (NFVi) platform to create an integrated “vCPE in a box” solution. Towards the end of the month, the company announced major feature and performance enhancements to Versa FlexVNF, including software-defined security that enables a range of layered security services for branch offices, including advanced functions such as domain name system (DNS) security and secure web gateways (SWG), coupled with full multi-tenancy.

And in March, the company announced a partnership with RAD that greatly simplifies how service providers and managed services providers (MSP) can offer VPN services to their enterprise customers. The joint solution offers SD-WAN implementations that leverage vCPE to create an agile and automated infrastructure for managed VPN services with quality assurance, security and deep network visibility.
