Versa Networks Closes 2015 With 40+ Customer Deployments and 35 Patents, Validating Global Leadership of Disruptive Wan Approaches

Company Announces vCPE and SD-WAN Milestones for Service Providers and Enterprises Following Public Launch
Santa Clara, Calif., December 10, 2015

Versa Networks, a networking and security startup providing next-generation WAN and branch solutions for service providers and enterprises, today announced it has surpassed the 40 customer deployment milestone, in addition to having more than 35 U.S. patents in process or filed. On the heels of its launch in November when the components of the Versa VNF (virtualized network functions) solution were first unveiled, these milestones build on the company’s strong foundation in anticipation of a strong growth year forecasted for 2016.

At present Versa Networks has more than 40 service provider and Fortune 500 enterprise deployments spanning North America, Europe, Asia and Central America ranging from proof-of-concepts to field trials and production. In particular, the company is seeing strong interest in its solutions for managed network and security offerings from tier-one service providers that – until now – have been using a proprietary approach, is slow and expensive to deploy, and is designed around a closed architecture that is difficult to scale. The Versa solution, featuring carrier-grade multi-tenancy, programmability, service chaining and elasticity, is uniquely poised to help service providers transition away from proprietary hardware and toward a more agile, software-based and DevOps-oriented approach.

Versa Networks also continues to drive network innovation for enterprises looking for alternative WAN and branch designs such as software-defined WAN (SD-WAN). In a recent report, Gartner wrote that “for enterprises seeking a lean branch office setup, these emerging SD-WAN solutions are relatively easy to deploy in a gradual manner. Due to SD-WAN’s strong benefits, Gartner believes that by the end of 2019, 30% of enterprises will use SD-WAN technology in all their branches, up from less than 1% today.”* Versa agrees, and is expanding SD-WAN’s enterprise-specific benefits with additional carrier-grade capabilities like layered security and service elasticity.

To empower its broad set of service provider and enterprise networking innovation, Versa Networks now has more than 35 U.S. patents in process around networking technology, provisioning and analytics.

“Having started Versa Networks in a response to the serious challenges that telcos and large enterprises were seeing around wide area networks and managed services, our early company success is part of a larger trend that is similar to the virtualization of data centers and influx of cloud computing,” said Kumar Mehta, CEO and co-founder of Versa Networks. “Just like virtualized and cloud-based computing, network function virtualization is bringing a dramatic increase in the agility and flexibility of network and security functions, as well as scalability and cost efficiency; not to mention that they can be placed wherever best meets IT and business needs and budgets.”

The Versa VNF solution consists of three components that together create next-generation WANs and branch networks:

  • Versa FlexVNF: The core building block for Versa VNF solutions, which includes a broad set of virtualized network and security functions with carrier-grade multi-tenancy, programmability, service chaining, service elasticity, and cost-effective deployment choices
  • Versa Director: Single point of centralized control and management for both connectivity and services
  • Versa Analytics: A real-time analytics engine that provides control, visibility, prediction and a feedback loop for adaptability

Versa Networks will be exhibiting at several major industry conferences in 2016, including MPLS SDN World Congress, NFV World Congress and ONUG. Attendees will be able to meet with the team and get demonstrations of Versa VNF solutions.
